A special Design Collective event brought to you by Bjork Studio & MODA in the final week of The South's Next Wave Exhibition. We are the first and only group to have this privilege. You do not want to miss this event.
The South’s Next Wave: Design Challenge
THE MUSEUM: As the only design museum in the southeastern United States, the Museum
of Design Atlanta strives to advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the
convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for
visitors of all ages.
THE EXHIBIT: The South’s Next Wave: Design Challenge, part exhibition, part
competition; the exhibition pairs designers of interior spaces with object designers to create
imaginative vignettes throughout the museum. Curators David Goodrowe and Tim Hobby co-
founders of Aesthetic Identity Design™ firm Goodrowe | Hobby™ have directed the work of
set /interior designers and of object designers in fields from furniture to fashion who exemplify the
myriad new directions the Southern aesthetic has taken.
SPONSOR OF THE EVENT: Designer Collective member BJORK STUDIO – a custom
upholstery, furniture and vintage atelier on Atlanta’s Westside. Conceived at the turn of THIS
century by longtime American interior designer Amy Wikman and her Swedish engineer husband
Tomas, this is also a marriage of culture and design as BJORK STUDIO creates furniture
made entirely in Atlanta, GA, USA as well as imports classic vintage modern furniture from
Scandinavia. BJORK STUDIO owner Amy Wikman is one of the designers featured as a
furniture designer in The South’s Next Wave with her esteemed vignette partner fine artist
Nancy VanDevender in their collaborative vignette “Wicked Games.” www.bjorkstudio.com
“The design of the vignette, Wicked Games, is based on Afrikan Tahti, a Finnish board game in which the players search for famous gemstones that now reside in the British Crown Jewels and return them to their homeland. Inspiration is taken from the game itself and vintage films in which board games are integral parts of the social plot. The wallpaper is the game board; the fantastical furniture, the pieces. Wicked references the duplicity, the conniving, the many hands and routes the ruby passes before finally being returned.
